It describes the courses students must take and the exams students must pass in order to become a teacher. You don't have to have a bachelors degree specifically in elementary education - any degree will do. There are various tests you need to pass in order to earn the credential too but they've changed since I earned mine almost 10 years ago. I know you have to take a reading test (RICA) and a general knowledge/subjects test (it was the MSAT nine years ago). The government likes to constantly change the requirements almost from year to year so, unfortunately, I'm sure what you end up researching will change by the time you go for your credential!
