One reason why you may not be finding anything specifically on this topic is because it is subjective and interpretive.

My opinion is that higher education is fine if it has a practical application. For instance, practicing law or becoming a doctor but there are many other professions where this could hamper the individual. From a professional aspect, the worst Engineers I have ever had on my staff or worked with me are PhD's. Their minds are developed in such an analytical manner that they become dysfunctional. Also, this is compounded by people who achieve degrees all in the same field i.e. engineering. I think it is great from a science perspective but from management or operatability it is useless.

I would rather see an Engineer with an undergrad and MS or a MBA rather than a PhD anytime. To this day, I wont higher PhD because I have no use for them.

truly higher education pushes tha limits of tha mind as tha underlying potential is brought to tha surface, it incorporates tha essential elements necessary to educate as well as bringing in new scenarios and real situations, not to mention scenarios where tha future has happened and consequence comes into play, that is what checks and balances tha human mind after all
